Despite Rep. Greg Smith’s history of questionable decisions and ethical violations, legislators are saying little about his most recent ethics case and are allowing him to remain on all but one of his current committees, the editorial board writes.

It’s not easy to downplay an ethics investigation that finds a public official abused his office to engineer a 55% salary increase and give himself nearly eight weeks of vacation in a seven-month period.
