Eastern Oregon Republican Rep. Greg Smith, right, the longest serving member of the Oregon House, easily defeated his first serious challenger in 16 years: rancher and former Morrow County Commissioner Jim Doherty.

Although dogged by accusations of ethics violations, an eastern Oregon lawmaker handily won his party’s nomination for a 14th term in the Oregon House.
