Many teams reach impressive 10-plus point leads over category competitors - February 16, 2026 by James Healey, OSAAtoday - Willamette's dance team had two first-place finishes at its Willamette Flood the Floor Competition on Saturday. Willamette's dance team had two first-place finishes at its Willamette Flood the Floor Competition on Saturday. Saturday brought dance/drill teams together again for two more competitions. Willamette Dance Team hosted teams at their Flood the Floor competition, and a bit farther north, Tigard Tigerettes hosted an event as well. The Flood the Floor competition was a smaller event, with Marshfield, North Bend, North Eugene, Philomath, Sheldon, and Willamette in attendance. These six teams brought forward routines in the Jazz, Traditional, Hip Hop, Pom, and Show categories. All categories at Willamette were divided into one or two-team groupings, so the event wasn’t as dynamic in terms of competitive categories. However, the event did give teams an excellent opportunity to receive feedback from judges and a chance to qualify a second routine for the OSAA State Championships. All teams are permitted to bring one routine to State, as long as it has competed within the qualifying time parameters and includes five or more dancers. North Eugene, a team that has dabbled in the Show category in the past, has returned to the category this season with a show entitled “Free.” As the only entry at this event, North Eugene represented the category well with a lovely performance and a first-place trophy. Marshfield had a strong showing in Eugene, earning scores that would qualify both of their routines as second routines at State by surpassing 70 points and meeting the required time parameters. Marshfield’s Pom (4A) and Traditional (4A) routines scored 76.11 and 73.78, respectively. Willamette’s Hip Hop (6A), with a score of 75.17, also qualified as a second routine. These performances produced the three highest scores of the day at the Flood the Floor competition. Willamette Flood the Floor Competition - First Place Finishes: Pom (4A): Marshfield (76.11); Hip Hop (6A): Willamette (75.17); Traditional (4A): Marshfield (73.78); Jazz (6A): Willamette (71.22); Show (5A): North Eugene (65.72); Jazz (4A): North Bend (63.33).
