Description

Officials on Saturday said they have retrieved the remains of the final victims of Tuesday’s deadly Longview paper mill chemical tank rupture, bringing the disaster’s confirmed death toll to 11.

“This is a horrific tragedy that has profoundly impacted our community,” Cowlitz County Coroner Dana Tucker said at a briefing where she shared the names of the deceased.

The mill disaster was “one of the most significant tragedies our community has experienced since the eruption of Mount St. Helens,” she said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

Flowers and chalk spelling out, “Longview Strong,” mark a makeshift memorial on old mill equipment in front of Nippon Dynawave Packaging Co. for the at least nine victims of the May 26 chemical disaster, in Longview, Wash., on May 29, 2026.
