COOS BAY POLICE DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES GRADUATE CRISIS INTERVENTION TEAM TRAINING
On Friday, May 9th, The Coos Bay Police Department had two employees graduate from the 40-hour Crisis Intervention Team Training. North Coos 911 Dispatcher Annalisa Church & Officer Bryce Shelton both attended this intensive training, hosted by Coos Health and Wellness. The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program is a community partnership of law enforcement, mental health and addiction professionals, individuals who live with mental illness and/or addiction disorders, their families, and other advocates. This training aims to reduce the risk of serious injury or death during an emergency interaction between persons with mental illness and police officers by helping teach skills and techniques to recognize and de-escalate situations with those in mental health related crisis. The Coos Bay Police Department aims to train all staff at the police department in these methods to better serve those in a crisis. This training is geared towards working with, and building relationships with other community partners, that may be better equipped to deal with these individuals to provide better short and long-term care.
Please help us congratulate these employees on their accomplishment!
