A fast-growing wildfire in Umatilla County is prompting officials to issue a Level 3 – “Go Now!” evacuation order.
The order affects areas from Tabor Road at East Walls Road, east to Highway 37. It also includes areas south of Walls Road and Tabor Road to East Punkin Center Road along the railroad tracks.
The Cold Springs Fire, which broke out Wednesday in the Hat Rock area, is now estimated to be about 4,000 acres.
The fire has already destroyed one home and is threatening 15 to 30 structures, according to the Umatilla County Fire District #1.
Officials are urging people to avoid the area as fire crews work the scene. Air resources have been deployed and two task forces from the Oregon State Fire Marshal are on the way, according to the fire district.
The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office has also issued a Level 2 – “Be Set” evacuation order for areas from Salmon Point to Hat Rock State Park.
A shelter is being set up at the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center at 1705 East Airport Road in Hermiston.
