USCG release - ASTORIA, Ore. — A Coast Guard MH-65 helicopter crew from Air Facility Newport rescued a hiker who was trapped on a cliff side at God’s Thumb in Lincoln City, Oregon, Saturday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Columbia River were contacted by North Lincoln Fire and Rescue who requested assistance removing a hiker from a cliff after it was determined they would be unable to safely conduct the evolution using their high-angle rescue team. The Coast Guard helicopter crew safely hoisted the individual and transported them to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. “This case was a great example of our strong partnership with Lincoln County Fire and Rescue,” said flight mechanic, Petty Officer Second Class Gavin Battle. “We’re happy the individual was reunited with his family.”
