CFPA releases - Lightning Recon – 9/5/2025; Following last night’s storm, numerous lightning strikes were recorded across the Coos Forest Protective Association district. After extensive ground and aerial reconnaissance, only one fire has been confirmed.  Soup Creek Fire – Located approximately 15 miles east of Reedsport, OR.  • Current size: 0.41 acre; • Status: Hand line and hose lay have been completed around the fire perimeter. Crews are conducting mop-up operations.  • Resources will remain on scene tomorrow to continue work.  CFPA will continue to monitor lightning-strike areas to ensure no additional fires emerge.  A reminder to the public: Despite recent rainfall, fire danger remains HIGH. Please use caution with outdoor activities and follow all regulated use closures.
