We will have snacks and a variety of games from the library's collection to choose from, or attendees are welcome to bring a game to share.  Age Bracket: Teens & Adults.  Sole Mates' Community Walk, Saturday, September 26 in the at Shore Acres (Cape Arago Trails), 10:00am – 11:00am.  September Trail: Shore Acres (Cape Arago Trails).  Meet the Sole Mates!  In May of 2023, Coos Bay Public Library, Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), and twenty members of the Coos Bay community formed the Sole Mates. This partnership began a two-year research study to learn the effects of walking as a group and engaging civically to improve public health and walkability in our community. The Sole Mates decided to use funds awarded by OHSU to create a free walking guide to inspire other community members to get outside, walk, and improve their health.  Coos Bay Public Library and the Sole Mates, will co-host Sole Mates’ Community Walk on every fourth Saturday. The September walk will be held at Shore Acres. Meet at Lighthouse Lookout, last parking area on right before Shore Acres turnoff (89526 Cape Arago Hwy).  *State park passes are required so plan ahead and carpool.  Every month, we will meet at the next trail in the Walking Guide. Joanie is a former Catholic nun, was received into the Episcopal Faith in 2024, a retired teacher and coach who enjoys playing pickleball, watching sports, traveling, fishing, gardening, playing guitar, listening to music, hiking and walking, baking treats and hanging out with family and friends. She is energetic, happy, humorous and loves all people! Filled with joy and hope, she believes Jesus is her best friend. In 1982, she met Sister Carol Tierheimer and they married on August 5, 2020 living 40 profound loving and adventurous years together in and OUT of the convent. Carol died in January 2022. In March of 2023 Joanie published her best-selling Amazon E book, Nun Better: An Amazing Love Story of their struggles and joys as LGBTQ+ and spiritual women.
