VCB & Convention Bureau release - The Oregon Farmers Market Association awarded the Coos Bay Farmers Market (CBFM) a $35,000 "Climate Resilience" Grant. The focus for the grant dollars will be Stabilization of Market Operations, Capacity Building for Market Growth, and Vendor Education and Support. Plans include a streamlined, fully integrated system including a website, email list, and newsletter. Plans also include replacement of the existing shed damaged by storms and weather over the last couple of years to secure and store needed emergency supplies, and also to purchase needed equipment such as weights, wagons, and tents to combat the increase in our coastal weather conditions. Funds will also be used for market staff support to ensure continuity of veteran staff and training of new staff. The Coos Bay Downtown Association's (CBDA) Coos Bay Farmers Market has grown to be the largest outdoor easily accessible Farmers Market on the Southern Oregon Coast, serving Coos, Douglas, and Curry counties. While the market was created primarily for the sale of local, fresh Oregon-grown produce and farm products, other products such as processed farm products, hot foods, handcrafted art and craft items, and informational booths for nonprofits & community support organizations are also part of the Market. With the goal of “Farm Fresh to Every Fork”, the market is actively participating in numerous Food Accessibility programs for our underserved populations. The CBFM is an all-inclusive market with a wide demographic of vendors, customers, employees, and volunteers. Melissa Hasart, Market Manager for the CBDA Farmers Market, added, “Our mission is to provide an easily accessible outdoor venue where local farmers, artisans, and mobile restaurant owners can sell their produce and products while enhancing the heart of the historic downtown district."
