Volunteers with the Heritage Apple Corps — arborists, Forest Service biologists and community members — work to identify century-old trees. Peter LoVerso lives in a part of central Oregon where he can ride his bike on public land and pick a heritage apple to eat on his journey. LoVerso, who lives near Bend, is also part of a corps of volunteers working to save apple trees planted in the region 150 years ago.
