With 10 seconds left in Thursday’s game against reigning Class 6A state champion Central Catholic, Nelson’s Braylon Gaines had to make a snap decision while trailing 56-54.
Gaines drove into the paint with the ball, paused a second to check his surroundings, hit a layup and drew the foul with 1.3 seconds left. With the successful free throw, the Hawks stunned the Rams 57-56.
