Many people throughout Oregon, especially in rural parts of the state, live in substandard manufactured housing or homes that lack access to air filters and air conditioners, according to a state cooling study. Legislators this session are focused on reducing residents' power costs and helping them adapt to extreme weather.

State lawmakers and environmental groups are looking to increase energy efficiency, reduce power costs and help people adapt to extreme weather by backing a slew of bills that are advancing in the Legislature.
