A Beaverton neighborhood is covering up swastika carvings with handmade knitted patches.Talia Estes and a friend decided to take matters into their own hands when swastikas started showing up on their neighborhood's trees.Talia Estes said she noticed white supremacist carvings on neighborhood trees in early May.Talia Estes said someone has been tearing down the handmade knitted patches, but she's making new ones to put back up.The Beaverton neighborhood has had no help from authorities in fighting the hate symbols, Talia Estes said.Trees located near Southwest 172nd Terrace and Sullivan Lane have been damaged.

At least one unidentified person has been carving swastikas and hate symbols into trees in a Beaverton neighborhood and residents fed up with a lack of official response are taking matters — and knitting needles or crochet hooks — into their own hands.
