Dear Eric: I will turn 65 in a few months and have announced my plans to retire. I have a long list of things I want to do, and after 50 years of employment and saving, I am well situated for these next years. At least, that is what my financial adviser and balance sheets tell me.

Recently, a deputy was on her way home after shift when she saw a car not driving well on the Northwest Expressway. Expecting a DUI, the deputy stopped the car and called for backup. Instead of an arrest, the deputy got to make someone's day! The elderly driver was having a difficult time seeing with the evening light conditions. Though almost home, they both agreed it was not safe for her to continue, but didn't want to leave her car on the side of the road overnight. While we aren’t a taxi service and don’t usually give rides, the circumstance was unique. With supervisor approval, the deputies gave her a ride, got her car home safely, and discussed giving up driving for good. Nothing heroic.
