🇵🇪 Afro-Peruvian Culture Day – June 4th

On June 4th, we celebrate Afro-Peruvian Culture Day in tribute to the rich heritage and invaluable contributions of the Afro-descendant community to the heart of Peruvian society.

This date honors the birth of Nicomedes Santa Cruz, a renowned poet and folklorist who devoted his life to preserving and promoting Afro-Peruvian traditions through music, poetry (décimas), and popular art.

Throughout the day, artistic performances, traditional dances, exhibitions, and cultural gatherings highlight the creativity, strength, and living legacy of a community that has profoundly shaped Peru’s identity.

Celebrating this day means embracing our roots with pride and remembering that the story of Peru cannot be told without the rhythm of the cajón, the wisdom of the ancestors, and the steady voice of those who, generation after generation, have endured with dignity and joy.

El 4 de junio celebramos el Día de la Cultura Afroperuana, en homenaje a la riqueza cultural y a los aportes invaluables de la comunidad afrodescendiente al alma de la comunidad Peruana.
