Approximately 60 personnel from law enforcement and military agencies in Lincoln County joined members of Oregon Department of Human Services Child Welfare on December 6, 2025, for the annual Shop with a Cop event at Walmart in Newport. The annual event has occurred in Lincoln County for over two decades and is designed to enhance the relationship between children and their families in foster care with emergency responders. This year, 140 children shopped with public safety personnel throughout Walmart. They got to meet Mr. and Mrs. Claus for a photo and gift generously provided by Lincoln City Kiwanis Club. Snacks and other holiday treats were provided by Walmart and representatives from the local 4H club. With community donations supporting the event, each child was provided a $75 gift card to purchase gifts. Santa’s elves, also from local law enforcement agencies, wrapped the gifts so they were ready to take home. Thank you to all the teams that make this event possible!
