THE COOS BAY PUBLIC LIBRARY WANTS YOUR PHOTOS During the month of November, we will be displaying photos all over the Library. First, in our front entry display cases we would like to display photos of local veterans to celebrate and honor them. If you or a family member is a veteran, please bring a photo to the reference desk between October 15 and 31. We will scan the photos and give them back to you and then print out a copy for our display. Also, from October 15 through the 31, we will be scanning photos for display on our Dia de los Muertos ofrenda. The ofrenda, or offering, is a way to honor our loved ones who have died. If you have a loved one who has passed that you would like to remember by having their photo on our ofrenda, please bring your photo to the reference desk and we will scan it and then return it to you and include it on our ofrenda. Finally, we are holding an amateur photo contest during the month of November. Amateur photographers are invited to submit up to two photos between 15-31 October to compete in the contest. This year’s theme is “Worth a Thousand Words.” We want to see your pictures that tell a story. This story might be of a fun outing, a rare glimpse of wildlife, or a quirky roadside attraction – you decide. All work must be original, unpublished work that has never been sold and has been taken within the last 12 months. It should be suitable for display and have minimal editing (formatting, lighting and correction only) and use no AI. All work should be submitted as an 8x10 print with an entry form. Photos will be displayed on our art wall throughout the month of November. The photos will be sorted by aged groups for judging: Adults (18+), Teens (13-17), Kids (7-12), and a special non-judged category called Happy Snappers (3-6) to allow young photographers to showcase their first photos. For more details on judging and prizes, please check out our website or stop by the library and pick up a flyer. Trick or Treat the Library Then Join Us for a Dance Party! Don’t forget to bring your little ones to trick or treat at the Library on Friday, October 30 from 3-5 p.m.! Then come back on October 31 from 10-11 a.m. for the Halloween Dance Party for ages 0-5. October 28 will be our last Zumba class with Corinna Dendy. Adults and Teens are invited to join Corinna from 5:30-6:30 p.m. to get a great workout and have fun. Wear comfortable clothes and bring water!
