Description

Only Angel City and the Houston Dash remain undefeated in the NWSL after the Portland Thorns lost 3-1 to the Wave in San Deigo.

Within two minutes, the Wave got on the board after Dudinha let it rip from inside the 18. The Thorns answered six minutes later when Pietra Tordin followed through with her initial shot, which ricocheted off the right post to equalize the match.

San Diego kept pressure in the box and Lia Godfrey got its third attempt through Portland. Melanie Barcenas put the game out of reach with the Wave’s third goal in the 82nd minute.

The loss comes after Portland began the season with two wins, including a 2-0 victory over Thorns’ arch rival, the Seattle Reign.

Portland hosts the Kansas City Current at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 28. The two teams played last in Portland last summer with the Current winning 2-0. Kansas City has won the last five contests between the two teams.
