People swim in Peninsula Outdoor Pool at Peninsula Park in Northeast Portland in 2024. This summer, middle school aged kids won't be able to go to the pool without an adult.

For many Portland middle schoolers, biking or walking to an outdoor city pool with friends, and without parents, is a highlight of summer and a first taste of freedom.
