•••Accused Murderer Violently Attacks Corrections Deputy•••  
  
On October 18, 2024, around 4:50 AM, a Corrections Deputy of the Coos County Jail went cell to cell in a housing unit, collecting items from the breakfast meal service and providing the Adults in Custody (AIC) an opportunity to throw away their trash.  
   
The Deputy arrived at the cell door for AIC Ian Geer (33), currently incarcerated awaiting trial for the charge of Murder. When the door opened, Geer immediately began attacking the Deputy, striking him in the face. The Deputy was able to restrain Geer against a wall until backup arrived. Geer repeatedly hit him in the back of the head and neck and attempted to gouge out the eyes of the Deputy.   
   
Two available Corrections Staff responded to assist with restraining Geer. Geer was escorted out of the housing unit and secured.  
   
On October 21, 2024, Geer was formally charged and arraigned for the crimes of Attempted Assault 2 and Assault on a Public Safety Officer.  
  
“Police action is not indicative of guilt.  All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
