The zoo train in Portland in 1977.

U.S. Sen. Richard L. Neuberger of Oregon in 1959 promised that the Washington Park loop of the Oregon Zoo train would be “the most elaborate and far flung recreation railroad ever built in our land.” Now, advocates are pushing to return to those glory days.
