A Statement from the Reedsport School District
The Reedsport School District extends its deepest condolences and heartfelt support to the students, families, educators, and community members whose lives have been forever changed by this senseless act of violence.
There are moments when words feel painfully inadequate in the face of such profound loss, fear, and heartbreak. This is one of those moments. No child should ever have to fear for their life at school. No educator should ever have to face such unimaginable circumstances. No family should ever have to endure the anguish of wondering whether their child is safe in a place entrusted with their care.
Our schools must be places of safety, belonging, hope, and opportunity. They are places where children should be free to learn, to grow, to build relationships, and to dream about their futures. When violence enters a school, it strikes at the very heart of what our communities hold most dear.
As a school district and as a community, we grieve alongside those who are suffering. We recognize that the pain of such a tragedy does not end with the immediate crisis. The days, weeks, and months ahead will bring difficult moments, unanswered questions, and a long journey toward healing. We hold in our thoughts all those directly affected, as well as the educators, school staff, first responders, and families who must find the strength to navigate the unimaginable.
When one school community suffers, the pain reaches far beyond its boundaries. We are reminded that we are all connected by our shared responsibility to protect, nurture, and care for our children.
