Michigan officials have approved a new ethics measure that will prevent state lawmakers, governors and certain high-ranking executive branch officials from becoming lobbyists for two years after leaving public office, a change supporters say is aimed at reducing conflicts of interest and restoring public trust in government. The law creates what is commonly known as a “cooling-off period” between public service and lobbying work, according to MLive.com.
