Four people died in a car crash in east Salem on Saturday, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded just before 8 p.m. to a collision between two vehicles near the 2400 block of Cordon Road NE. The site is next to Chávez Elementary School and Sunnyview Road, about 1.5 miles east of Interstate 5.
Four people in one of the cars were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. Two others in the same car suffered serious injuries and were taken to Salem-area hospitals. Occupants of the other car also received medical treatment, police said.
The sheriff’s office has not released the identities of those involved, pending notification of relatives. It has also not released details about the vehicles.
In a press release Saturday evening, the sheriff’s office said Cordon Road NE would be closed for several hours while investigators worked at the scene. Sheriff’s officials asked the public to avoid the area.
