Portland's hot summer weather will take a quick break later this week turning cooler and wet for the weekend. Oregonian file photo.

The broad upper-level ridge of high pressure that’s been hanging around and bringing the heat will begin to break down later Wednesday and shift eastward, according to the National Weather Service.
