The Surgical Services Manager is responsible for providing leadership to the staff and physicians of the Surgery Department.  Managing the surgery schedule and the flow of patients through the department.  The ongoing training and education of the staff.  Be the liaison between Surgeons, Anesthesia, and the staff of the department.  The Manager ensures the attainment of District HR objectives through the selection, development, motivation, education, and evaluation of Departmental personnel.

  • Specifies personnel accountabilities and regularly evaluates performance.
  • Establishes appropriate departmentalization and delegation.
  • Develops and regularly reviews policies and procedures for the Department.
  • Assists HR in developing job descriptions and ensures that each employee understands and has the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the job.

This is a “working management" position and the Manager may be required to perform the duties of any of the nursing staff at any time.  The Manager supervises all staff in the OR/PACU and Endoscopy Department, and reports to the Chief Nursing Officer.

Skills, Knowledge, & Experience Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing is required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is recommended.
  • Current RN license in the state of Oregon is required.
  • Have and maintain Basic Life Support Provider (BLS) / Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification. 
  • Have at least two (2) years of experience in surgical nursing is required.
  • Nursing certification in a surgical specialty is recommended.
  • Nursing management experience is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in Cardiac Arrhythmias, pharmaceuticals, and endoscopic procedures is required.
  • Previous practice in circulating, scrubbing, cleaning, and care of instruments, wrapping, and autoclaving is required.
  • Working knowledge of surgical instrumentation is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a drive to provide exceptional service.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, and computer proficiency specifically in Microsoft Office and online software.

This is a Full-Time position that is eligible for benefits. * SCHHC pays the full employee-only amount for Health, Dental, Vision, and Basic Life & AD&D insurance. *

Employment with Southern Coos Hospital is contingent upon an acceptable pre-employment drug screening and background check.
