JOB SUMMARY:

A Registered Nurse, through the use of the nursing process, is responsible for the perioperative nursing care of all assigned patients and assigned additional duties in the OR suite, PACU and Central Sterilization to maintain the department in a state of readiness at all times. Assist anesthesia with OP procedures to admit surgical patients as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Observes and interacts with patient and/or family to identify physical and psychosocial needs of each patient.
2. Demonstrates knowledge of nursing skills and exercises judgment in the performance of nursing care.
3. Applies knowledge of drugs and operative procedures in performance of role as a professional nurse.
4. Uses aseptic techniques according to the AORN Standards of Practice.
5. Performs safely and accurately in scrub nurse role during an operative procedure.
6. Employs and directs protective measures for each patient’s safety.
7. Is prepared to respond appropriately in emergencies.
8. Seeks assistance and support of OR supervisor and uses hospital’s Policies and Procedures and appropriately adapts them in delivering patient care.
9. Provides supportive activity to the OR unit.
10. Participates in professional growth and development of the department.
11. Disinfecting and cleaning of OR, PACU and CENTRAL STERILIZATION.
12. Ordering and stocking of supplies.
13. General organization and maintenance of equipment.
14. All other duties assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education and License:

High School Diploma or equivalent, required.

Current Registered Nurses license in the State of Oregon.

Certifications

Experience:

Minimum three years OR experience in scrubbing and circulating.

1. Ability to read, write and converse effectively in the English language.
2. Work requires availability for call as needed or scheduled.
3. Work requires long periods of standing and walking.
4. Work requires lifting of light and heavy objects for short periods of time.
5. Requires good physical, emotional and mental health.
6. May be called to work in the event of a disaster.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Works indoors in an air-conditioned environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Frequent use of computer and phone, and other standard office machines.  Must be able to stand, sit, stoop, twist, kneel, reach, push, pull using proper body mechanics and move/lift varying amounts of weight to a maximum of 50 lbs.
