22nd Annual Autism Walk in Portland comes to Oaks Park

Family-friendly community event provides a fun day celebrating Autistic people

(April 28, 2024) The Autism Society of Oregon (ASO) is hosting its 22nd Annual Autism Walk in Portland on Sunday, April 28th, during Autism Acceptance Month. This is the largest Autism event held in Oregon, drawing 1,500 people from all over Oregon and Southwest Washington. The Autism Walk in Portland raises Autism awareness and acceptance, builds community ties, features community resources, and gives Autistic people and their supporters a day of fun! All the funds raised remain in Oregon and SW Washington to support the programs of the Autism Society of Oregon.

The 22nd Annual Autism Walk in Portland will be held at Oaks Amusement Park, 7805 SE Oaks Park Way, in Portland. The Walk is approximately one-half (1/2) mile in length and fully accessible. There are also many family-friendly and Autism-friendly activities, starting at 9:00 am, including a Photo Booth by InstaPixNW; Face Painters from PNW iconic events; Costumed Characters roaming the event from Portland Ghostbusters, Cosplay Characters from Concordia Clan; Star Wars Oregon, and Z Fighters Worldwide, plus over 40 community resource exhibitors, a Sensory & Crafts Area, and a Quiet Area. Portland Fire & Rescue will provide a fire boat water display from the Willamette River at 11:00am.

"This event is a tradition for many of our participants. It's a day for the everyone in the Autism community to have fun and celebrate the Autistic person they love.” said Tobi Rates, Executive Director of the Autism Society of Oregon.

Registration and all events start at 9:00 am, the walk starts at 10:45 a.m. and Oaks Park rides open at 12:00 noon. Registration is available at the event. Registration fees are $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 3-17. No registration is required for children ages 2 and under. Everyone registered receives an event t-shirt with a design chosen from entries received from members of the local Autism community.
