June 2026 has been proclaimed Gun Violence Awareness Month in Tualatin, recognizing the importance of preventing gun violence, honoring victims and survivors, and promoting safer communities for all.

Every day, more than 120 Americans are killed by gun violence and more than 200 others are wounded. Communities across the nation continue to work toward evidence-based solutions that reduce violence and improve public safety.

Gun Violence Awareness Month honors the life of Hadiya Pendleton, who was tragically killed at age 15 in 2013. In recognition of her June 2 birthday, people across the country wear orange to remember victims of gun violence, support survivors, and raise awareness. The color orange was chosen because it symbolizes the value of human life and safety.

By wearing orange throughout June, the Tualatin community can help honor those affected by gun violence and promote conversations about prevention, responsible firearm ownership, and community safety.

This proclamation was introduced and adopted at the May 26, 2026 City Council Meeting.
We encourage our community to join us in recognizing Gun Violence Awareness Month, wearing orange, honoring victims and survivors, and supporting efforts to reduce gun violence and protect lives.
