9/12/26 SAR K9 Helps Locate Missing Person in Florence

On September 12th at about 2:30 pm, resources from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist the Florence Police Department in locating a missing person who was last seen in the Florence area.

LCSO Search and Rescue volunteers began searching the area where the individual was last known to be. K9 Jasper (pictured) alerted someone was nearby, which allowed volunteers to conduct a sound sweep and find the individual. EMS was requested and Western Lane Fire and EMS Authority responded.

The missing person required additional care. Officers with the Florence Police Department transported the individual to a local area hospital for treatment.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office is proud of all the staff that helped in this rescue. Collaborative effort and partnerships between agencies make these saves possible.

Nearly every week, Lane County Sheriff's Search & Rescue staff and volunteers assist our residents and visitors in all types of environments. To learn more about our Search & Rescue program or to donate to their work visit our website at:

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office wants everyone to recreate safely, so please remember:

⛰️Always tell someone where you are going and when you plan to return.

🌨️Know conditions before you leave - rain in the valley can mean ice up high!

⛺Be prepared to stay out overnight - even if you don't plan to get out of your car.

🗺️Bring maps for offline navigation - cell service can be spotty!

🌊If you go on the water, ALWAYS wear a life jacket!

🛑If you become lost, STAY PUT! Find a way to signal or make your location visible. Always carry a whistle and flashlight in the outdoors – it just might save your life.Photos from Lane County Sheriff's Office's post Featured News by Lane County Sheriff

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 2026 Reedsport 5K Salmon Run. From the runners and walkers at the starting line to the volunteers helping behind the scenes and the families and friends cheering along the course, we loved seeing our community come together for such a fun morning.

Events like this don’t happen without a lot of people stepping up to make them possible, and we’re especially grateful to our sponsors:

Highwater Cafe & Market
Lower Umpqua Hospital Foundation
Reedsport Main Street Program
Trillium

Thank you for supporting the Salmon Run and helping us bring an event centered around movement, connection and community to Reedsport.

We have plenty more photos to sort through and share over the next few days, but for now, here’s a look at the moment the 2026 Reedsport Salmon Run officially got underway.

From all of us at Lower Umpqua Hospital District, thank you for showing up, getting moving and making this year’s run such a great one.Watch video on Facebook.com Featured News by Lower Umpqua Hospital District
