Officers responded to a reported road rage incident that occurred today around 10:40 a.m., near NE Cornell Road and NE 25th Avenue, where a driver allegedly displayed a firearm and threatened another motorist. After canvassing the area, officers located the suspect vehicle near NE 15th Avenue and NE Sunrise Lane stopped in a residential neighborhood. A passenger from the vehicle attempted to walk away but was detained. The passenger was found to be in possession of a firearm and a large quantity of a controlled substance. While officers were detaining the passenger, the driver fled the scene in the vehicle. With assistance from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office K9 team, the Hillsboro Police K9 team, and the Washington County Remotely Operated Vehicle Team (ROVT) utilizing a drone, officers were able to safely locate and take the driver into custody without further incident. The driver also admitted to having a firearm inside the vehicle, which was later recovered by officers. At this time, the driver is being charged with Animal Abuse 1, Criminal Mischief 1, Felony Elude, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Menacing. The passenger is being charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and drug-related offenses. This investigation remains active, and charges are still being finalized.
