COOS WATERSHED ASSOCIATION EVENT BARRIERS SURVEY

Have you attended a Coos Watershed Association (CoosWA) event? Or wished you could, but something stopped you? CoosWA is rolling out a community survey to identify potential barriers to participating in their events and activities. The survey is short, and its results will help staff plan programming in 2026 that is more inclusive and welcoming to local watershed residents (those who live in Coos Bay, North Bend, Charleston, Allegany, and surrounding areas). Everyone who participates will be entered in a raffle to win a CoosWA shirt or hat!

Take the survey here by December 31, 2025: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/G3XMGVF

🏡 POZUZO: A PIECE OF EUROPE IN THE HEART OF THE PERUVIAN RAINFOREST 🌿🇩🇪🇦🇹

Did you know that in the Peruvian Amazon there is a place where people dance polka, speak an old form of German, and enjoy sausages surrounded by macaws? 🕺🌭🐦
Yes, it exists, and it’s called Pozuzo.

Founded in 1859 by Austro-German immigrants who crossed the Andes on an epic journey, Pozuzo was established in the jungle foothills of Peru, in what is now the Pasco region. 🏞

Pozuzo is a unique example of cultural blending: traditions from the Tyrolean and Rhineland regions of Europe fused with the natural and cultural richness of the Andes and the Amazon. You’ll find alpine-style houses, colorful flower gardens, traditional clothing, festivals with dances like the schuhplattler, and celebrations where German cuisine blends with Peruvian ingredients. 🍺🥨🌽

Today, Pozuzo is not only living history, but also a symbol of intercultural coexistence, resilience, and respect for nature. Its landscapes, crystal-clear rivers, and warm hospitality make it one of Peru’s most fascinating destinations. 🏔🌴

Coos Bay Fire Department will conduct a live training burn at 369 S. Marple St. on Monday, Dec. 8, from 5:00 PM to about 7:00 PM.

This exercise gives your firefighters hands-on training under real conditions. Crews will practice exterior fire attack, water supply operations, rescue skills, ventilation, and exposure protection. These drills help keep your firefighters ready for real emergencies.

This will be a controlled burn with extra safety resources on scene to protect personnel and nearby properties.

The 300 block of S. Marple St. will be reduced to one lane during the exercise, and hose lines will cross part of the roadway. Please drive slowly if you travel through the area.

We will monitor wind and smoke conditions during the training. Please keep windows closed during the burn and contact us if smoke enters your home. A firefighter will remain on scene until all flames are fully extinguished.

This training is conducted with your safety in mind and is one of the best ways we prepare for real emergencies. Featured News by Coos Bay Police Department
