Congratulations to our TIP award Winners!

On Saturday, May 2nd several Lane County Sheriff’s deputies received “Heroes with Heart” awards at the 2026 fundraiser for Trauma Intervention Program of Lane County (TIP).

Other first responders were recognized at the event as well, for all their work on especially traumatic events they responded to. The award recipients were nominated by TIP volunteers. The deputies recognized (from left to right):

 - Deputy Hearn

 - Deputy Grotefend

 - Deputy Brooks

Sergeant Lane was also recognized.

TIP of Lane County started in 2023 to serve the Eugene and Springfield areas. Tip provides immediate emotional first aid and practical support to survivors of tragedy, in coordination with deputies, police officers, and emergency medical services. Their dedicated volunteers bridge the gap - often at the scene of a traumatic incident - until survivors can rely on their own support systems.

Thank you TIP for your service, and thanks for recognizing our deputies’ care for our community.

Teamwork in Action: K9 Mac Tracks Down Wanted Suspect

On May 4, around 9:30 a.m., Hillsboro Police officers received information that a wanted individual was in the area of Jackson School Village Apartments.

Officers coordinated with K9 Handler Mesch and his partner, K9 Mac, to locate the suspect. What followed was a strong example of how teamwork and a determined K9 can make a difference.

K9 Mac quickly picked up the track and led officers into a nearby forested area. During the search, the team encountered a large, downed log blocking their path. While Handler Mesch climbed over the obstacle, Mac’s smaller size allowed him to maneuver underneath, continuing the track without losing momentum.

That persistence paid off.

With K9 Mac leading the way, officers located Christopher Jordan Lloyd and took him into custody safely and without further incident on a Washington County felony parole warrant.

Moments like this highlight the training, coordination, and partnership that go into every K9 deployment and how each member of the team plays a critical role.

-

Want to see K9 Mac in action?

He will be competing at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office K9 Trials on May 16. Community members are encouraged to come out and support.
