Description

Closing in on the Memorial Day Weekend.  Are you ready?  Not sure what one would have to be ready for, but it sounds like we better be ready.  So, let's take the U.S. Army approach and hurry up and wait.  I'm thinking lots of visitors to the Coast.  Campgrounds, beach, state parks, dunes, and the like.  Let's check the weather on this eve of the holiday weekend kickoff.... Partly cloudy skies along the South Oregon Coast with highs in the mid 60s and winds from the North at 10-20 mph.  Partly cloudy tonight then overcast late with lows near 50 and winds from the North at 10-20 mph.  Mostly cloudy on Friday with highs in the low 60s.  Maybe the wind won't be as blustery as it was the last two days.  How about some news....
  • Talked about the 15-hour day and it has finally arrived.  We'll have it until late June, so now is the time to take full advantage of our long days.
  • Got your tides for the Coos Bay Estuary.  We do have some early morning minus tides headed our way.
  • Lots of reports on the agenda for the Coos Co. Airport District Board of Commissioners when they meet this morning at the Airport, North Bend.
  • Coos Co. Board of Commissioners will have a talk about the strategic investment plan for Roseburg Forest Products and hold a town hall meeting tonight at The Barn, Bandon.
  • City of Coos Bay conducting plant maintenance on their waste water treatment plants.
  • Community cooking program through CBPL.
  • Formation of an Eastside Neighborhood Watch at the Coos Bay Fire Hall this evening.
  • The History and Legacy of Sigmund Freud is the topic of a lecture at SWOCC.
  • ODOT has some tips for those considering road trips this Summer.
  • Free fishing, clamming and crabbing coming to Oregon June 3-4.  Best make plans now.
  • Pacific Power has grants involving electric mobility.  It seems to be the way of the future.
  • USCG members on a lunch break in Seattle react to a vehicle accident.
  • Bear euthanized in the La Grande area after a confrontation with a chicken owner.  Whose at fault?  An urban area that has spread further into the outdoors or an aggressive bear seeking food?
  • Search warrant executed at alleged poacher's home.
  • Attempt to Elude on Seven Devils Rd.
  • Careless driving at Lakeside.
  • Police logs show lots of warrant arrests, criminal trespassing, counterfeit money, illegal camping, UEMV, burglary and cat theft.  Yes, cat!
  • In sports, high school track & field championships begin at Eugene.
  • UO track teams and OSU women's track team at Sacramento for the NCAA West.
  • Beavers baseball falls to Arizona at the Pac-12 Tournament.  Play Arizona State this morning.  Ducks play Stanford today.
  • UO softball at Stillwater, OK to play the Cowgirls in an NCAA Super Regional.
Got some weeding done yesterday.  Wow, everything is really under the grow light right now.  Just growing by leaps and bounds and popping up everywhere.  We get the longer days, the warmer weather and now the result of Mother Nature's Springtime, mowing, weeding, clipping and unfortunately, not just one and done.  Have a good day.
