THE DOLPHIN PLAYHOUSE UNVEILS A MAGICAL ALADDIN PANTO

This December, the Dolphin Playhouse invites you to join in the fun with Aladdin, the fifth annual holiday panto in a cherished tradition. Running weekends from December 6 -December 22, Aladdin will enchant audiences with a fresh, comedic take on the beloved story – complete with a magic-performing monkey, two genies, and a mysterious pyramid appearing once every 1,000 years!

Co-directors Peg and Alice, the dynamic team behind all five Dolphin pantos, are thrilled to bring Aladdin to life this year. Peg shared that the production is an exciting opportunity to showcase new technology and equipment funded by recent grants.
This unique version of Aladdin stays true to the traditional English “pantomime” style, bringing broad humor, sight gags, physical comedy, and lots of audience participation. Expect lively music, jokes that hit both high and low notes, and a festive atmosphere that’s become a hallmark of The Dolphin Playhouse’s holiday shows.

This year’s production features beloved Playhouse regulars. Ariel returns as Jasmine, Amber Nichole plays the Empress, and Alex Baugh is back. Quinn Ryan celebrates her third panto with her debuting seven-year-old brother, and board president Joy makes her first panto appearance.

Don’t miss the chance to experience Aladdin in this exciting, tech-enhanced production that’s perfect for all ages! Curtain time is 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for seniors and students, and $8 for children under 12, and $25 for a family of two adults and up to three children. December 7 is Pay What You Can, with admission by donation. Tickets are available through thedolphinplayhouse.com or by calling 541-808-2611. Featured News by City of Coos Bay

CITY RECEIVES HIGHEST RATING IN ANNUAL FINANCIAL AUDIT

This week the City’s auditor shared the result of the required annual financial audit during the Tuesday, December 3, 2024, Council Meeting. Tara Kamp, CPA, of Pauly Rogers & Co, PC, provided both the City Council and URA Agency Board with an overview of the audit process and the management letter. The City and Agency received an unmodified opinion on the financial statements and records, the highest level to be achieved as part of the annual audit process.

Annual audits are required under both Oregon Administrative Rules and Oregon Revised Statutes and include auditor fieldwork each spring and fall. Our auditor reviews the established internal controls, and tests their effectiveness, as well as confirming financial statement account balances are fairly presented in all materials respects.

The Finance Department, a staff of four, focuses daily efforts to ensure financial activity is accurately and timely recorded and reconciled, while continuing efforts to achieve full transparency to the public and development of a collaborative interaction with internal departments.

Ms. Kamp shared her appreciation to the City Council, Agency Board, and City staff, for their continued support of the accounting process and understanding of the importance of fiscal responsibility.

I would like to thank Ms. Kamp and the full audit team of Pauly Rogers & Co, PC for their role in ensuring the City and Agency meet state statute audit requirements, as well as enable transparency of government through the issuance of both the audit report and management letter. I would also like to thank the members of the City’s Finance Department and to acknowledge their dedicated work resulting in continued clean audit reports.
