On the evening of July 26, 2024, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office and Coquille Fire Department responded to 90845 Lampa Lane, Myrtle Point in response to a report of a house fire occurring at that location.    
  
Firefighters and Deputies located Frank L. Sherman Sr., 89 years of age, inside of the home. Mr. Sherman was transported to the hospital due to the severity of his injuries, but succumbed to his injuries on July 27, 2024.    
  
The Coos County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with members of the Coos County Major Crimes Team, initiated an investigation into the matter as it was determined Mr. Sherman’s cause of death was determined to be homicidal violence. Mr. Ian Geer, 33 years of age, was identified as a person of interest, but could not be initially located.   
  
Over time the investigation continued which led to evidence which led the Coos County Sheriff’s Office to locate Mr. Geer at 95765 Trinity Lane, Coquille. The investigation also revealed evidence to recommend charges to the Coos County District Attorney’s Office alleging the crimes of Murder in the Second Degree and Arson in the first degree against Mr. Geer.   
  
Mr. Geer was located by Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies with the assistance of K9 Cena and taken into custody without incident. Mr. Geer was booked and lodged at the Coos County Jail on the aforementioned crimes.
