On Broadway Thespians Presents Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street - A Musical Thriller at Hales Center

Revenge, corruption, and dark comedy collide in this Tony Award-winning musical thriller

On Broadway Thespians (OBT) invites audiences to experience Stephen Sondheim's Tony Award-winning masterpiece, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street - A Musical Thriller, this February at the Hales Center for the Performing Arts.

In the smog-choked streets of Victorian London, the law doesn't protect the innocent—it serves the elite. When a vengeful barber and an ambitious pie-maker join forces, they turn the brutal realities of their world into a literal, macabre enterprise. Sweeney Todd is more than a chilling thriller; it is a razor-sharp indictment of a corrupt system where those in power feast upon the lower classes. The production asks a haunting question: In a society built on greed and exploitation, who are the real monsters?

In the smog-choked streets of Victorian London, the law doesn't protect the innocent—it serves the elite. When a vengeful barber and an ambitious pie-maker join forces, they turn the brutal realities of their world into a literal, macabre enterprise. Sweeney Todd is more than a chilling thriller; it is a razor-sharp indictment of a corrupt system where those in power feast upon the lower classes. The production asks a haunting question: In a society built on greed and exploitation, who are the real monsters? "There are two kinds of men and only two, Mrs. Lovett," the title character observes. "There's the one staying put in his proper place and the one with his foot in the other one's face." Audiences can expect a night of complex melodies, breathtaking suspense, and the signature magic of live theatre that defines the OBT mission. Experience the dark, witty, and heartbreaking tale of what happens when the marginalized finally decide to fight back. PERFORMANCE DETAILS Dates: February 20 – March 8, 2026 Location: Hales Center for the Performing Arts, SWOCC Campus, Coos Bay, OR Tickets: $12–$15 (available online and at the box office one hour prior to performances) CONTENT ADVISORY Sweeney Todd contains mature themes including cannibalism, sexual assault, and judicial corruption.
