CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH AT THE COOS BAY LIBRARY WITH A SPECIAL PERFORMANCE BY NORMAN SYLVESTER & THE BOOGIE CATS

Black History month is here, and the Coos Bay Public Library has a special performance to help kick it off right! On February 5th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Portland-based musician Norman Sylvester & the Boogie Cats will be performing in the Myrtlewood Room. Normal Sylvester was born in Louisiana and moved to Portland at the age of 12. He learned to play from “the King of Seattle Blues”, Isaac Scott and played in soul bands in the 60s, 70s, and 80s before forming the Norman Sylvester Band in the 90s. Boogie Cat, as he is known, is a popular blues staple playing clubs, festivals and benefits throughout the Pacific Northwest for the past 40 years. He has been inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame and was awarded the Cascade Blues Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Explore the history of American Music at this fun program featuring a variety of music from drumming and field hollers (call and response) to today’s hip-hop. Hear examples of gospel music, Delta Blues, Halem Renaissance Jazz, rock and more. Get ready to move at an interactive performance by award-winning musicians. Everyone is invited to this free concert! Featured News by City of Coos Bay
