On 2/25/26 at about 8pm, dispatch received a phone call regarding a suspicious vehicle at the Costco on NE 48th Avenue, in Hillsboro.

Officers had previous knowledge regarding the vehicle and probable cause existed to arrest the driver for Stalking and Menacing. Officers began to form a perimeter around the parking lot when the vehicle began to drive away. One officer was able to successfully deflate the vehicle’s tires, using spike strips, as it fled the area.

The vehicle came to a stop and the driver fled on foot, near the intersection of NE Butler Street and NE 65th Avenue. Officers had information the suspect was armed and a shelter in place order was issued to the surrounding area via dispatch.

With assistance from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Beaverton Police Department, a multi-K9 track supported by a drone located the suspect hiding in a tree nearby.

The suspect initially refused to climb down from the tree and challenged officers to shoot him. Officers were able to de-escalate the situation and safely take the suspect into custody without injury. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

Ryan Gitts (44) was arrested for Stalking, Menacing, DUII, Reckless Driving, Attempt to Elude a Police Officer, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Thank you to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Beaverton Police Department for their assistance in the safe apprehension of a fleeing suspect.Photos from Hillsboro Police Department's post Featured News by Hillsboro Police Department
