Congratulations to our newest Corrections Academy graduates!  
  
Deputies Flores, Hale, Callaghan, and Wittenborn graduated from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards & Training (DPSST) Basic Corrections Class BCL070 on Friday after 6 weeks of academy training.  
  
Deputy Flores also served on the class Color Guard.   
  
These deputies will also complete several months of field training at the Lane County Jail. We look forward to your continued service to our community at the jail and beyond!  
  
The Lane County Sheriff's Office operates the county jail and provides patrol, criminal investigations, civil process, and search & rescue services. Special units include Marine Patrol, Dunes Patrol, Forest Patrol, Special Response Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, Drone Team, and K9 Team.  
  
Founded in 1851, the Lane County Sheriff's Office serves over 380,000 residents in Lane County, and many more who work and recreate every day in the county’s 4,620 square miles of valleys, mountains, lakes, rivers, and ocean.

City Wide Clean Up Day is tomorrow!   
  
Join us on Saturday, April 18 from 10am–3pm as we come together in honor of Earth Day to keep our community clean and support a great cause.  
  
How it works:  
-Donate at least 4 food items or $4 to support the South Coast Food Share  
-Then drop off up to 4 cans (35-gallon size) of household garbage or recyclables  
  
Drop-off locations:  
• South 4th St Parking Lot (between Anderson & Curtis, Coos Bay)  
• Eastside Fire Station – 365 D Street, Coos Bay  
• Empire Boat Ramp, Coos Bay  
• Pony Village Mall (by Mini Pet Mart, North Bend)  
  
Please note: We cannot accept tires, appliances, furniture, metal, or hazardous materials.  
  
This is a great opportunity to clean up your space, give back to the community, and make a positive impact.

Storm System Repairs on South 8th Street   
  
On Monday,  April  13,  2026, City staff began repairing the storm system on South 8th Street. All Work will be limited to the intersection of South 8th Street and Anderson Avenue. South 8th Street will be closed to through-traffic with business access available from Central Avenue only. Anderson Avenue will be reduced to one lane at the intersection of South 8th Street. Minor delays should be expected. Work will start after 8:00 am and end no later than 5:30 pm. Repairs are expected to be completed by Friday, April 24.
