12/26/25 - LCSO SAR assists with McKenzie rescue

On December 26th at about 7 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue personnel responded to assist Upper Mckenzie Rural Fire Protection District with a 90-year-old man lost in the woods near McKenzie Bridge. Fire personnel located the man prior to SAR arriving, however he needed to be carried out. SAR assisted with carrying the patient with a rescue basket over rugged terrain to a waiting ambulance.

Please follow these tips to stay safe when you explore the outdoors in our county:
⛰️ Always tell someone where you are going and when you plan to return.
🌨️ Know conditions before you leave - rain in the valley can mean snow up high!
🏕️ Be prepared to stay out overnight - even if you don't plan to get out of your car.
🗺️ Bring maps for offline navigation - cell service can be spotty!
🌊 If you go on the water, ALWAYS wear a life jacket!

If you become lost, STAY PUT! Find a way to signal or make your location visible. Always carry a whistle and flashlight in the outdoors – it just might save your life.

Nearly every week, Lane County Sheriff's Search & Rescue deputies and volunteers assist our residents and visitors in all types of environments.
