Description

The purpose of a healthcare clinic nurse is to provide comprehensive, high-quality care to patients. This includes performing thorough assessments, administering treatments, and managing chronic conditions to promote patient health and well-being. The nurse collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and effective care, while also educating patients on disease management and preventive health practices. Additionally, the nurse plays a critical role in triaging patient needs, responding to emergencies, and maintaining accurate health records to support the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the clinic.

Qualifications, Education, & Experience

  • Nursing degree from an accredited nursing program
  • Unrestricted Oregon nursing license
  • Experience working in a clinical setting
  • Acute care preferred
  • Current training or certification in fetal monitoring and NST procedures strongly preferred, or willing to obtain within six months of hire
  • Certification in Diabetes Education (CDCES or equivalent) preferred; candidates without certification must be willing to obtain within 12 months of hire

 

 

Essential Responsibilities: Clinic Nurse

  1. Patient Assessment and Care:
  • Perform comprehensive assessments of patients, including taking medical histories, checking vital signs, and evaluating symptoms.
  • Administer medications, injections, and treatments as prescribed by iproviders.
  • Monitor and document patient progress, reporting any changes or concerns to the provider.
  1. Clinical Procedures:
  • Conduct routine medical procedures such as drawing blood, inserting IVs and catheters, administering EKGs, and performing wound care.
  • Assist providers with examinations and minor procedures.
  1. Care Coordination:
  • Collaborate with providers, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care for patients.
  • Schedule and coordinate follow-up appointments, tests, and referrals to other healthcare services as needed.
  1. Patient Education:
  • Educate patients about their conditions, treatment plans, medications, and lifestyle modifications for managing chronic diseases.
  • Provide guidance on preventive care, nutrition, exercise, and managing risk factors for healthcare conditions.
  1. Medication Management:
  • Prepare and administer prescribed medications, ensuring accuracy and adherence to dosage instructions.
  • Monitor patients for side effects and interactions and educate them on proper medication use.
  1. Health Records Management:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic health records (EHR) for all patients.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with healthcare regulations and internal policies.
  1. Diagnostic Testing:
  • Collect and prepare specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Perform and interpret basic diagnostic tests, such as blood glucose monitoring and urine analysis.
  • Proficiency in conducting and documenting Non-Stress Tests (NSTs) as part of antepartum fetal surveillance.
  1. Chronic Disease Management:
  • Provide support and education for patients managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  1. Infection Control:
  • Adhere to infection control protocols to maintain a sterile and safe clinical environment.
  • Educate patients and staff on infection prevention practices.
  1. Emergency Response:
  • Provide immediate care in emergency situations, including performing CPR and other life-saving measures.
  • Prepare and assist in the stabilization and transfer of patients requiring urgent care.
  1. Triage:
  • Conduct triage to prioritize patient care based on the severity of their condition.
  • Assess and determine the urgency of patient needs, providing immediate care or directing them to the appropriate healthcare provider.
  1. Administrative Duties:
  • Manage patient flow within the clinic to reduce wait times and enhance patient experience.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as patient registration, billing, and insurance documentation as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings, case reviews, and professional development sessions.
  1. Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures as applicable to area(s) of responsibility
  2. Handle confidential information and materials appropriately and maintain a secure work area
  3. Other duties as assigned within the scope of respective nursing licensure

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of clinical procedures, patient care techniques, and nursing best practices
  • Proficiency in medical terminology used in internal medicine
  • Knowledge of medications, their uses, side effects, and interactions
  • Understanding of infection control protocols and procedures
  • Familiarity with managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease
  • Knowledge of healthcare laws and regulations, including HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements
  • Proficiency in using EHR systems to document patient information accurately and efficiently
  • Proficiency in performing clinical tasks such as administering injections, drawing blood, and conducting diagnostic tests
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including taking medical histories and evaluating symptoms
  • Skill in educating patients and families about conditions, treatments, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Critical attention to detail for accuracy, timeliness, and organization of assigned work
  • Ability to report to work as scheduled, and willingness to work a flexible schedule when needed
  • Proficient in Electronic Health Records (EHR), Microsoft Office Suite and Windows Operating System (OS)
  • Knowledge and understanding of how the positions’ responsibilities contribute to the department and company goals and mission
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws including OSHA, HIPAA, Waste Fraud and Abuse

Working Conditions: (Patient Care)

This position must have the ability to occasionally remain in a stationary position, often for long periods of time, and frequently move about inside the healthcare facility provide patient care, and access office machinery; and frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.

Work Condition: Healthcare Facility

  • Employee generally works within the interior of a healthcare facility.
  • Employee may travel locally and be responsible for own transportation; out of area travel may be required on occasion.
  • Hours of operations and specific staff scheduling may vary based on operational need.
  • The healthcare facility environment is clean with a comfortable temperature and moderate noise level. 

Exposed to:

  • Healthcare facility cold and heat controls.
  • Close contact with employees and the public, in a healthcare facility.
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Potential exposure to escalated or angry patients.

Machines, equipment, tools, and supplies used

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as postage machine, fax, copier, calculator, multi-line telephone system, scanner.
  • May use diagnostic or screening medical devices as directed by medical provider, such as blood glucose machine, manual or battery-operated blood pressure device, thermometer, oximetry.
  • May answer a high volume of telephone calls, complete documentation, and use computer programs to either obtain or record information.
  • May be required to use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids.

Multiple Duties: Must be able to work under conditions of frequent interruption and be able to stay on task.
