Description

Democrats currently hold 17 seats in the 30-member Oregon Senate. If they were to capture 18 this fall, they would return to holding a supermajority, allowing them to increase current taxes or add new ones without needing any Republican votes.

Polling over the summer showed a Republican challenger gaining ground in a key Oregon state Senate race that could determine whether Democrats regain the supermajority that would allow them to pass tax bills without Republican support.
