Jen, right, sits with her teenage daughter who in 2023 filed a lawsuit against the Oregon Department of Human Services alleging the agency failed to act on tips that could have prevented her from being sexually abused. Jen, who supported her daughter throughout the ordeal, never expected she’d become a defendant in the case.

When Jen’s teenage daughter decided to file a lawsuit against the Oregon Department of Human Services for not protecting her from sexual abuse, Jen’s biggest concern was for the girl’s recovery.
