Description

Welcome to Fall 2022.  Yes, it is one of those Equinox events.  If all else fails in your understanding, just stand outside and howl at the moon.  Not sure what that will do other than scare your neighbors, but it feels good to let a little out doesn't it?  We are still on that roller coaster week of weather, up and down, up and down.  Today, the forecast is for up... Sunshine with clouds mixed along the South Oregon Coast.  Highs in the upper 60s and winds out of the Southwest at 5-10 mph.  A few clouds tonight with lows near 50 and winds light and variable.  Partly cloudy skies on Friday with highs around 70.  Kind of feels like we are settling into Fall, but the traffic on Hwy. 101 is not!  We still have visitors in our midst.  Best get to the news...
  • Weekly report from OHA released Wednesday shows 28 new deaths in Oregon due to COVID-19.  That's right.  Not tetanus, small pox or the other viruses our parents protected us from with those early inoculations in our youth.  Some still scuff at the numbers, but 8,520 deaths is real, just ask the families.
  • Board of Commissioners for the Coos Co. Airport District meets this morning at the airport in North Bend.
  • There was an earthquake off Bandon early this morning.  Outer fault line, six-miles deep.
  • Recognizing the Hiroshima Peace Tree, Oregon's Forester, who happens to have ties to the Bay Area, led the ceremony in Salem.
  • Another illegal pot bust in Southern Oregon.  'Tis the season.
  • Police logs show drug bust following a UEMV report at the Mill Casino.
  • Giving false info regarding vehicle insurance can lead to an arrest, it did for one male in North Bend.
  • Police logs show DWS, UEMV, DUII, just an alphabet type of day.  But, also criminal trespass, burglary and hit & run reports.
  • In sports, Oregon volleyball wins at Oregon State Wednesday night.
  • SWOCC men win at home in soccer over Rogue CC out of Grants Pass.
  • Prep soccer has Marshfield and North Bend on the road tonight.
  • Couple of South Coast teams break into the top 10 of the Coach's Prep Football Polls.
Old song from Loverboy, "Everybody's working for the weekend," and it is close.  Love Fall weekends.  Prep, college and pro football games.  Little cooler nip in the air, but still warm.  Prepping around the house for the colder/wetter days (if those dang mosquitos would leave us along while doing this).  I am still wondering about the Frogs of Summer.  It has been quiet outdoors.  Where are the frogs?  I've always heard them, and relied on them to get fat on those mosquitos but it seems they found a new spot this year.  Just seems strange when there is an eerie silence outdoors.  Need to find a frog specialist who can shed a little light on this riveting question.  I knew I could work that in somehow.  Keep your COVID-19 safeguards in place, especially if you are of the "I don't need no stinking shot" crowd.  It is all about protecting you and your loved ones.  It is still here unfortunately.
