Portland police riot squad tactics in spotlight as $450K protester lawsuit reaches jury

Published on: 10/04/2022

Description

Leaders of the Portland police unit once charged with quashing unruly demonstrations defended their use of force in court as a jury weighed a lawsuit filed by a protester who says an officer shoved her to the ground, breaking her arm.

A Multnomah County jury heard closing arguments Monday in the civil suit filed by Erin Wenzel, who seeks more than $450,000 after she says two unidentified officers assigned to the Rapid Response Team pushed her over while dispersing protesters gathered in North Portland on Aug. 14, 2020.
